December 11th – 2nd Annual A2A3 Swimming Holiday Masters Relays!
We had great fun at the 2nd Annual A2A3 Swimming Holiday Relays! All proceeds will again go to finding a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Swimmers swam typical relays in addition to some non-traditional/fun relays (T-shirt, kickboard and the all-new “Butler” relays.) Thanks to Skyline High School for use of the wonderful facility.

2010 Holiday Relays Highlights:
Buhr Park Sharks Lou Gehrig’s Disease Swimathon
The Buhr Park Sharks are an Ann Arbor Rec and Ed swim team with great coaches and a large team of young swimmers aged from 5 to 18. Beginning in 2010, the team has been raising money for Ann Arbor Active Against ALS during their annual swimathon! In 2010, 70 young Sharks and several others swam nearly 5,900 25m lengths – that’s OVER 91 MILES!
Check out the video below from 2010!
Each year, they aim to do raise more and more – and you can support their effort by donating to to honor the effort of an individual swimmer or the team effort as a whole. DONATE NOW! OR – swim on your own and take your own pledges with our paper pledge form or by emailing the link to the online donation form! Raise $80 and earn a 24oz stainless steel water bottle!
A2A3 and the swimathon is an especially good fit for the Sharks’ July fundraiser. The perseverance and sustained effort of a swimathon is a great way to honor Gehrig’s persistence in his 2130 streak of consecutive games while recognizing the long-term daily effort of individuals and families affected by the disease.

Please consider sponsoring a Buhr Park Shark or swimming your own lengths in support of their effort. Learn more about Lou Gehrig and the Buhr Park Shark Swimathon at their donation page!

Success! A2A3 Swimming Holiday Masters Relays – December 12th, 2010
We had fun at the inaugural A2A3 Swimming Holiday Relays! This charity event was sanctioned by Michigan Masters for USMS, inc. All proceeds go to finding a cure for ALS (a.k.a. Lou Gehrig’s Disease). We hope and believe that swimmers had a great time! Events in 2010 included standard USMS relays in addition to some non-traditional/fun relays (the t-shirt and kickboard relays.) We will definitely do it again and grow it. Next year, please bring at least one friend or a bunch of teammates. Don’t worry – we’ll be in touch before then! This year’s event got us started in making a difference, but we also hope you had fun!
NEXT YEAR: We will definitely aim for more swimmers and ways to accommodate and organize solo swimmers
